From what I can make out Planar tracking is a type of motion tracking that sticks to a plane rather than a series of tracking markers. This could work well for a number of reasons, such as replacing decals on trucks, posters on walls, signs etc. From a quick search I have found a few tutorials on how to achieve this in Blender.
